On the beaches along Wailea to Kihei, Maui it’s obvious that fringe bikini tops are hot. Women of all ages and shapes from fat (who really shouldn’t) to thin are sporting various styles of fringe mixed and.or matched with different bottoms (thongs, butt-barers and regular bottoms.
In addition to the fringe bikini, beach bunnies are wearing protective shirts, hats, go-aheads (called slippers in the Islands), big sunglasses, sarongs and hoodies. You should also pack snorkel gear (or rent it here), lots of sunscreen, shorts and tank tops. Other obvious fashion statements are tats, large and small, some covering most of the body, especially on guys, and glitter nail polish for finger and toe nails.
Evening attire here is mostly shorts with sexy tops for women, Aloha shirts for guys except at fancy spots such as Duo or Spago at the Four Seasons, Morimoto at Andaz (where we saw eight inch heels and knock-out numbers) , and Grand Wailea. Pretty much, though, anything goes in Maui as long as it’s put together right. We do see some real misses especially on overweight women who show a little too much flesh or flab.
Maui is just coming into the high seasons and hotels are boasting high occupancy, the weather is ideal, in the 80s with balmy breeze and the ocean offering a hospitable temperature. To learn more about the Valley Island go to http://www.gohawaii.com/maui.
