Root decay: It happens when the roots of your teeth get exposed as a result of receding gums due to decay causing acids.
Dry mouth: Reduced production of saliva in the mouth can be a result of the physical changes that take we grow old. It can also be a side effect of cancer treatment that uses radiation. Since saliva helps kill bacteria and build plaque, decrease in its production exposes older adults to various oral diseases.
Darkened teeth: It mainly occurs as a result of the consumption of stain-causing foods and beverage like coffee, wine, and soda. It can also be due to the change in the bone-like tissue that lies underneath your tooth enamel.
Wear and tear: Decades of chewing and grinding can can wear down the enamel on the teeth, thereby increasing the risk for cavities.
Oral diseases: A common oral disease is thrush, which is an overgrowth of fungus in the mouth. More serious conditions include oral cancer.
Tooth loss: Loss of tooth is mainly caused by gum disease. This happens due to poor diet, diabetes, consumption of tobacco products, etc.
