A hotel in Japan called, “Weird Hotel” in English and “Henn a Hotel” in Japanese has just opened up and according to a report by News Max in July 17, it is almost completely run by robots. The only actual live people who work in this hotel are those who watch the security cameras all the time. The rest of the staff are robots from the receptionist to the bellhop. The only English speaking robot is a scary looking dinosaur that tells you to push one if you want to check-in. You then push a button on the touch screen and input your information. The receptionist that speaks Japanese is a female humanoid with blinking eyelashes.
There are even robots in the rooms that tell you what time it is, what the weather will be like tomorrow, and it will turn the lights on and off for you as there are no light switches on the walls at all. The robot in the rooms is one that looks like a lamp in the shape of a pink tulip.
The bellhop is a robot that takes your luggage to your room for you. According to MSN News, instead of the use of keys for entering the rooms, they use facial recognition technology. They say the reason for this is because robots have trouble finding keys if a guest loses theirs.
There is also a giant robotic arm that brings glass boxes out of the wall for guests to put their items in. The robotic arm then puts the glass box back into the wall until the guest wants their belongings back. This system is called “robot cloak room.”
There is a robot concierge that looks like a doll but with no hair that will tell you about breakfast and information on events. However, this concierge cannot call you a cab or do anything else.
The price for one night is pretty cheap as it costs 9,000 yen or $80 which is cheap for a hotel in Japan. The hotel opened up Wednesday to reporters only before opening up for the public on Friday.
