Thunder Bay Press has several crochet kits that includes everything you need to get started on crocheting your favorite character. This is also an excellent way to get started with amigurumi, “which is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. The word is derived from a combination of the Japanese words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted, and nuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll”.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amigurumi)
What you get in the box is yarn, a crochet hook or 2, stuffing, a needle for sewing, and safety eyes/felt. There are 12 projects to do, though with the kits you only have enough yarn to do two to three characters.
In the Star Wars kit, you have enough yarn to create Yoda and a Stormtrooper. The instructions, if you are not used to crocheting characters, were a bit difficult to follow; however it would be recommended that you read over the pattern first before taking on the project to avoid headaches later. While it comes with yarn, there is no way for you to find the colors again especially if wanted to recreate another Yoda. You would have to come up with an alternative. Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn, has color’s that are close, but the size of your Yoda will be a bit bigger since it is worsted weight vs. the dk size in the kit. Check the photo for size and color difference. In this kit you can make these character such as: C-3PO, Princess Leia, Wicket the Ewok, Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Boba Fett, Jaba the Hutt, and Darth Vader.
With the Classic Disney kit, this is a real treat for the Disney fan in your life. This kit does not include safety eyes; instead you get felt for the eyes. You have enough yarn to make Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Same as with the Star Wars Kit, you will have to be creative to come up yarn alternatives to recreate your favorite characters. In the book, you have patterns to recreate the rest of the classic characters such as: Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Chip ‘n’ Dale, Dumbo, Bambi, Lady, Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket.
In the Peanuts kit, anyone who is fan of Charlie Brown and the gang will love this one. As with the other kits, this includes everything you need to create three of the characters, Charlie Brown, Snoopy and Woodstock. This one also includes two crochet hooks and no safety eyes. You also have instructions to make the following characters: Linus, Franklin, Lucy, Sally, Peppermint Patty, Pigpen, Flying Ace Snoopy, Schroder, and Marcie. And of course you have instructions for Schroeder’s piano, Linus’ blanket, and a paper model of Snoopy’s doghouse.
As you can see these kits offer a lot of creativity and they are definitely perfect for anyone who wants to try their hand at this style of crochet.
You can purchase these kits on Thunder Bay Press, and each of these kits retail for $24.95.
Overall this is a great idea. Almost anyone who can crochet would love these kits. It is a unique idea especially with the fact that it comes with all the materials you need to get started. These kits are definitely worth the price.
